The Centre
The New Zealand Centre for Conservation Medicine functions as Auckland Zoo's veterinary hospital,
a national wildlife referral centre and an international hub that supports research and education focused on conservation medicine.
The award winning building, architecturally designed with the environment in mind utilises solar water heating as well as natural lighting & ventilation.
Facilities include a large treatment room, modern surgery, diagnostic laboratory, imaging room, intensive care ward and hospital suites for our in-patients. A veterinary library and 60-seat lecture theatre are also on site.
The NZCCM also hosts the offices for the Zoo Aquarium Association, and the Australasian branch of the Conservation Breeding Specialist Group.
As a visitor to Auckland Zoo you can discover more about Conservation Medicine and the work of our centre in our interactive public gallery. Glass walls in the gallery allow the visitor to view the work carried out in the treatment room, surgery and laboratory. NZCCM encounters occur every Monday and Tuesday at 1.30 pm in our public gallery. These encounters allow for questions and answers with Auckland Zoo vets about the work and research conducted at the NZCCM. |
