Porcupine Case Study
CASE: Porcupine
Nyack suddenly developed a severe right side head tilt and had trouble standing. While this improved over a few weeks of antibiotic treatment, it was still present so with the cooperation of a local imaging facility, Nyack was taken for a CT scan. Sumatran Tiger Case Study CASE: Sumatran tiger
Molek is a 10-year-old female Sumatran tiger, so named as they are only found on the Indonesian island of Sumatra. There are an estimated 500 Sumatran tigers left in the wild – they are endangered as a result of deforestation for palm oil as well as poachers. Molek is part of a captive breeding programme at Auckland Zoo and her three cubs born there are well known by the general public. Learn more...

NZ Fur Seal Case Study CASE: NZ Fur Seal
A young male fur seal was brought to the NZCCM by the Department of Conservation. It had been run over by a train in the Otahuhu marshalling yards, and had quite a severe injury to its right rear flipper. The seal, which was otherwise in really good condition, was anaesthetised and his exposed and damaged bones were amputated and the wound was sutured together, leaving the right flipper much smaller than the left one.
